Washington Writers’ Publishing House is excited to announce the winners of our 2015 contests in fiction and poetry. Michelle Chan Brown has won the Jean Feldman Award for her collection of poems, Motherland With Wolves. Ms. Brown is the author of a previous full-length collection, Double Agent, which won the 2012 Kore First Book Award, judged by Bhanu Kapil. Her 2010 chapbook, The Clever Decoys, was published by LATR Editions. She is a two-time Pushcart nominee and the editor of Drunken Boat.
The 2015 fiction prize has been awarded to Patricia Schultheis for her collection of stories, St. Bart’s Way. Ms. Schultheis was a finalist for the 2008 Flannery O’Connor Award and has had nearly two dozen short stories published in national and international literary journals. In 2010 her short story “Downward Drifting” was included in an anthology of Baltimore writers, and she was a fellow at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She has served on the editorial boards of The Baltimore Review and Narrative magazine, and is a member of The Authors Guild and a voting member of The National Book Critics Circle.
Both books will be published in the fall of 2015. Congratulations to both award winners and thanks to all the poets and fiction writers who submitted their fine work to this year’s contest.
