American Dream Articles

President Obama said: “The reason was because the American dream involved some pretty basic stuff,” Obama said, ticking off a home, a job, education and healthcare. “But I don’t think people went around saying to themselves, ‘I need to have a 10,000 square-foot house.”

In his interview with David Blum (an Amazon Singles Interview) President Obama says how he thinks celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have “skewed” the American Dream by “augmenting the dream. This dream seems to be way more out of reach and harder for anybody to achieve. When younger generations idolize the every move of celebrities from where they go shopping, to the clothing their wearing this is giving to much of a window into the rich and famous lifestyle. Giving people the idea of an unrealistic American Dream.

Michelle Obama said: “That fundamental American promise that so many of us grew up with—that no matter where you start out, with hard work, you can build a decent life for yourself and an even better life for your kids—that promise unfortunately is no longer within reach for too many families in our country.”

Michelle Obama discusses the American Dream that she believes is no longer an option or opportunity for middle America. She sees that there is a lot to do and to change to make sure that the American dream is something for all Americans. She used a great example relating the American dream to her own family, in particularly her father and this work to give all he could for the family.
