The globalization timeline was overall a positive experience and I learned a lot about the the history of globalization and important teamwork values. There were numerous different factors that influenced our interactions and affected how we addressed and worked on the project. One of the difficulties our team had was differing understandings of the project’s guidelines and objectives. Being from two different classes that teach the same material, each teacher emphasizes and confronts each chapter differently. During our beginning meetings, our team had to form a collective understanding of what was expected of us and many times needed to ask the instructors for clarification.
Another factor that influenced the project was the different time zones. Since Groningen is 6 hours ahead of Arlington we had to specifically plan our meetings for times that worked for all the members. Another difficulty was that everybody had different schedules and activities that they actively participated. My two group members Nikki and Sam are both commuters so our meetings generally had to be during the weekdays and in between classes. From this project I understand the importance of communication between team members. As a group we had to text a lot because face to face meetings were hard to coordinate and I had to personally make sure that I was trying to respond as quickly as possible and being patient with the process.
If I was able to redo this process I would try to be more organized with meeting times and making sure to clarify our expectations of each other. I would also try to work on the different parts of the project more as a unit than individually. As a group we decided to split the project up and each member had a specific assignment. This caused problems with the group dynamic because every individual completed their parts at their own pace and to their own standards. I believe if we worked together more often the project would have been more proficient and had all the necessary elements needed upon submitting. Overall this project was an enjoyable experience and I learned a lot about my members and how to work with people globally.
