Reading this memoir definitely made me think about life writing. In Julia and Watson’s book she started to talk about life writing and late capitalism. She mentioned that writing was more personal and people […]

Hi, Naiya. You’ve got some interesting insights on your blog entries here; just keep revising them for accuracy and detailed content in terms of using specific quotes or cited moments from the text that connect between ideas in the memoirs and theoretical framework in Smith and Watson. I like the article you’ve posted to help with further context for Maus, and it raises an interesting question to discuss in terms of why this memoir might endure–a question we’ve asked of other memoirs as well. In your entries in general, try to think of introduction/body/conclusion developing a specific point you want to make at the opening and closing it out at the end. That kind of shaping is often a good final revision strategy.

      Naiya,
My first comment is purely aesthetic: make sure you save as pdf to get all the spacing/tabs/margins set so they won’t move around in various browsers or software. In general, you want to diversify your verb categories and lead with the strongest activities first (so “created” instead of repeating “developed”; leave “completed” or “assisted” for lower lines within a section). Emphasize responsible actions–there are websites and books that just list these “action” words–I’ve got one in my office if you need ideas, but some include created, organized, managed, synthesized, reported, presented, facilitated… Your date format is a bit cluttered, and probably you want your dates to be in a right-hand margin column so they aren’t the first word on a line (people read left to right, so keep your job titles and important verbs on the left). Your achievements are great and interesting; I’d move them up higher. The Abingdon elementary school you need to reverse the location and the duties to keep parallel form. In general, you really want to go after parallel form and powerful word choice/organizational visual choices here. The information is great, but doesn’t yet read easily at a glance. I’m happy to do a hard copy mark up for you as well if you want to make an appointment in person (or Career Services can do that as well). Hope that helps!

I wonder that all the time, because God wants everyone to be with him. Why did God even create evil? He knew that there would be problems in the world, but why? I think it’s because he wants to test us. I think that he wants to see how we handle hardships and temptation.

I think that traditions can still be within the church without routines. I would say that some people rehearse it too much. It should kind of flow, but I cannot describe how I would want it. I think tradition comes naturally throughout churches.

I agree that as long as you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, then you are saved. Although, he does expect you to follow the commandments. I don’t think he would want a murderer with him in heaven, so I would say try to follow the ten commandments and repent.

Well, I don’t think Jesus meant that same sexes could be together. He meant that Jonathan’s love is stronger for him period.( 2 Samuel 1:26). I will not bash people for liking the same gender, but it’s something I don’t personally agree with.
