    • Do you think this is fair or unfair, and why?
Based on the story about the conspiracy theory, I think it is unfair. By publishing and even making some unverified information about someone is not good. Making it unverified public details about someone, especially for personal gain, is not a good thing. This can have detrimental effects, especially if the information has a massive global effect.

What would you do if this happened to you (Be very specific)? How would you go about clearing your name?
I would stay put and calm. This will help me continue with my everyday life regardless of what is being said about me in social media. Believing in something that one knows is not true, can have a long-term effect on a person. That is why I will try to stay as usual and inform people that the information being passed across is not true and that it is aimed at tainting my name and image.

George Webb mentioned in the article claims to be an investigative reporter.
Do you think George Webb’s freedom of speech should allow him to stream on YouTube and why? Cite at least three sources to support your view
George Webb’s freedom of speech should not allow him to stream on YouTube any unverified contents. Since YouTube is one of the social media platforms, it is prudent to upload only content that has been verified to be true. By uploading any untrue and unverified information, especially for monetary gain, it is wrong and will be against the rights of any person. In the article “What Does Free Speech Mean?” about the US constitution, freedom of speech does not include the rights to make or disseminate falsified or unverified information in the media. This means that the freedom of expression in terms of speech is limited, and does not include incitements that lead to personal gains and profits.

Do you think advertisers on George Webb’s YouTube channel should be held responsible for supporting his stories and why? Cite three sources that explain the good or bad consequences of advertising on Youtube news channels and websites.
The advertisers on George Webb’s YouTube channel should not be held responsible for supporting his stories. For any content to be uploaded to YouTube pages, it is assumed that it has passed all the tests of al the authorities that govern what should be put in media. Advertisers, in this case, are innocent since they only look for a YouTube channel that has a lot of followers as a chance to advertise and market their products. In the article “YouTube Advertising: New Research and Insights for Marketers” by Michelle Krasniak, she reveals that viewers have a greater acceptance of the ads ran on YouTube more readily than on any other platforms like on Facebook. This means that the influence manned on YouTube is more significant, hence the need to put stringently measured to ensure that anything that is uploaded is free of any disputes.

In another article, “YouTube advertising value and its effects on purchase intention” by Duygu Firat, he found out in his studies that informativeness and entertainment and trendiness had a positive effect on YouTube advertising value; however, irritation had a negative impact. Besides, the findings showed that YouTube advertising value had a positive impact on purchasing intention. This means that whatever was uploaded on YouTube has a more significant influence on people viewing it, and thus anything uploaded may be taken as being true.

George Webb claims to be an investigative reporter. Do you think he is or is not and why?
George Webb is an investigative reporter. For one to be an investigative reporter, they tend to conduct various research reports of news that carry heavyweights in terms of content. Ranging from his several investigative reports, George Webb is a renowned media investigative journalist.

Read the following article about TikTok

As a comment to this post answer the following:

Based on the article do you think the following statement is a good thing or a bad thing and why?
    Cite the article […]

    • TikTok gives a chance to everyone to become a success by providing a platform for their content. The content on TikTok is primarily video content, little known artists, comedians or content creators in general can get worldwide acclaim for their content based on how much acclaim the content received from viewers and other TikTok users. ‘Stupid’ by Ashnikko is an example of a video that became a success due to the platform (Thurrott, 2019).
One of the bad sides of TikTok is cyberbullying. People with disabilities and content with people with disabilities or about people with disabilities are easily targeted by cyberbullies(Anderson, 2020). This creates a huge problem for TikTok because as much as the platform is meant to promote content, it easily becomes a weapon against the vulnerable in society.
The handling of Politically and religiously sensitive content is also one of the dark sides of TikTok (Webb & Webb, 2020). Over the years, people have been known to post jihadist videos on Tiktok, cryptic videos and even videos to encourage oppression about nations with political instability (Mackenzie & Nichols, 2020). TikTok has found it hard to manage these situations. The video by Feroza Aziz is an example of how TikTok handles the situation as her account was only suspended shortly before it was reinstated.

    • 1. Based on the article do you think the following statement is a good thing or a bad thing and why?
Cite the article at least three times in your answer.
I think the author is just placing a warning to the users of TikTok or those who want to know what TikTok is about. We already know that Facebook already does a lot of the things that TikTok is accused of because “of the China Internet Security Law, ByteDance is legally unable to refuse to share its data with the Chinese government.” Unlike twitter who kinda has a more secure way to protect what people tweet and located in the US, they have more freedom to protect users. Even in the article, it does mention how TikTok got its fame in the first place saying, “TikTok broadened the scope of its content to match that of Vine’s, promoting displays of comedy, talent and the infamous dramatic lip-syncing of songs.” In addition, this fame also has to do with the wide range of availability of the app “Now available in 150 markets and in 75 languages, the app has collected over 1.5 billion users globally — that’s billion with a “B.” ‘ Even with such a big thing it tends to have its own problems. Hence the warning that the author puts out there for new users.

      2. Why or why not is TikTok a good performance media platform?
Cite at least three articles in addition to this one.
If the goal of the performance media is aimed at teens to young adults, then it would seem to be a very good platform to engage with the audience. The article citing that ” In fact, 60% of TikTok’s active U.S. users are between 16 and 24. ” Keeping in mind the main audience that we aim for is a good way to make sure what we use as a platform. However, if our audience is to help those with disabilities then it won’t be a good place to be as ” People with
disabilities are among the most underrepresented groups in media and decreasing their social media presence only exacerbates the problem of people underestimating how prevalent disabilities and marginalized identities truly are. ” Also with the part of data protection, one has to be aware that ” Even though TikTok is banned in China, its creator company ByteDance is based in Beijing and so falls prey to the country’s strict censorship laws.” Which goes back to the previous quote that mentioned how they still have to give data to China even if they do not want it in the first place.

    • Based on the article do you think the following statement is a good thing or a bad thing and why?

the app is very powerful with music advertising more then anything and we see this when the article is talking about
Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” and how TikTok is to partially thank for its fame. but like the article said TikTok was aimed to be another Vine but with more tricks and more advertising opportunities. I think this doesn’t apply to a lot of people but I definitely think that musician can use this a lot since the most popular thing is dance to catchy music and a lot of repetition of course.

Why or why not is TikTok a good performance media platform?
The main goal of PM platform is to get the point across and see people that are interested on the cause or goal. Being in 150 markets and in 75 languages as the article states and 1.5 billion users globally make this app an effective as a platform. but there still are concerns about privacy and other issues, according to the article ” accusations of the app suppressing videos portraying China in a negative light” is just one of Many things this app is accused of.

    • Sorry this is late!
1.Based on the article do you think the following statement is a good thing or a bad thing and why?
Cite the article at least three times in your answer.

I think it can be a good thing because, as the article mentions, artists that weren’t as popular as before have become more popular through their songs trending. It is also good because, again like the article mentions, there is pretty much no limit on the kind of content that is on the app so you could do almost anything and it would fit. A downside to the app is that users who are about body confidence or LGBTQ+ are not being heard completely, which the article mentions.

2.Why or why not is TikTok a good performance media platform?
Cite at least three articles in addition to this one.

It’s a good media platform if your goal is to reach younger audiences since, like the article mentioned, majority of the users are young. This article, link here https://theinfluencermarketingfactory.com/how-to-use-tiktok-for-business-in-2019-influencer-marketing-tips/, talks about how businesses are looking into how much culture is being shaped because of the app, so finding a way to use it for a campaign could help with the culture shape in a positive way. This article, https://blog.hootsuite.com/what-is-tiktok/, mentions how tiktok has 1.65 billion downloads to date, so it reaches a whole bunch of people all over the world. This article, https://vidooly.com/blog/tiktok-marketing-for-business/, talks about how hashtag challenges are popular, so pretty much if your hashtag gets big then it gets more awareness since people will keep using it. All of these would help to say that tiktok is a good performance media platform.
