The activity sheet/rubric are well written and arranged. Perhaps I missed it somewhere, but I was curious what grade level this activity would be designed for? Also, addressing the theoretical aspect of your project, I was intrigued by your discussion of student engagement and the Rajaratnam text. It might benefit to examine not only the…[Read more]

In reply to: Allyson Freeland wrote a new post, Story Sentiment?, on the site EN571: Literature & Technology Story and plot are seemingly synonymous ideas often used interchangeably in discussions of literature, however, the […] View

To address some of the questions you raise in the third paragraph (since I can’t really comment on the technical aspects of your project) – I think as long as you recognize going into the project that the sentiments expressed might not be completely “legitimate” because of the framing, then it can still be factored into your analysis or provided…[Read more]

I find it interesting that a word processor helps you with writer’s bloc because my experience has always been the opposite. I think when using a computer, it’s much easier to become distracted or unfocused, so I will sometimes resort to writing with pen and paper. With the added concentration of writing by hand, I find that it forces me to be…[Read more]

I agree that Wikipedia still has its issues, but I believe that for the most part the site has gone through its “growing pains.” Wikipedia has been fairly thorough in its development of “checks and balances” so to speak… most of the high-traffic articles have a protected or semi-protected status that prevents much of the careless (or malicious)…[Read more]

So in your first paragraph, does your comparison to social media and Facebook imply that you’re predicting the “death” of Microsoft Word as well? Sticking with the analogy – it seems like people having been predicting the decline of Facebook for years, yet not until recently does it seem like Instagram is ready to take its place (though I’m…[Read more]
