I want to extend a welcome to all of the new students that are starting graduate programs at Marymount this week. I hope that this blog has provided some encouragement and useful information. I want to push all of you to network with everyone you can. While undergrad is mostly made up of students at the same point in their lives, grad school is more diverse.

Some of the best opportunities for career development can come from people that you meet in graduate school. The professors are also likely to be a better career resource because you are suddenly a better qualified candidate. Other students are often further along in their careers and can provide referrals. I also don’t want to disregard the friendship that can be made amongst classmates. I have been fortunate to have made some very good friends while at Marymount and am sure I’ll make more. I think one of MU’s greatest strengths is its people and now is the time to take advantage of that.
