Northern Virginia is home to some of the best Ethiopian food in the country with a few restaurants spread around the area. Ethiopian food is not just good, it is an experience. The food consists of well-seasoned meat and vegetable dishes that are served on a slightly sour spongy flatbread called injera. The injera soaks up the seasonings and sauces of the other food. This is all eaten with the diners’ hands with injera being used as a wrapping. Among the unique dishes is kitfo, it consists of raw minced seasoned beef. I was encourage to get it partially cooked my first time. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are an integral part of the food culture as regular religious fasting from animal products is common. Ethiopian food is a great meal for anyone that wants a unique dining experience.
