I have signed up for Alternative Spring Break (Mar 8 – Mar 15).

I am so excited.  My first visit to Jamaica.

It is a service trip. Our focus will be to serve marginalized populations who live in poverty.

Hopefully, some beach time will be included.

I did some research about the culture, in particular the food. 🙂

At orientation we learned that we will have a lot of vegetarian meals because meat can be scarce.

I look forward to trying some of these..

Ackee

The kaki, also known as achee, akee apple or akee was imported from West Africa in the eighteenth century.

The Ackee and Saltfish is considered Jamaica’s national dish.

They have some exotic fruits in Jamaica – that’s for sure!

I hope to have a chance to visit the open market in Kingston and try some of these:

Keep an eye on the page of Campus Ministry if you are interested in other service opportunities.

I can’t wait!
