Fall Break Memories

It insane to think that in just a matter of days, other days will become distant memories. Some memories will fade into “I think we did that or we saw that”. Others will forever be in our hearts. You spend months looking forward and planning something and all of sudden in a blink of an eye, it is over. That for me will forever be my fall break in Europe. Continue reading

Experiencing a Culture Shock

As I have been living in London the past two months, and found it extremely easy to adapt to my new surroundings, it has been quite the adventure arriving in some new cities. I have recently started my fall break travels, and it has been very different than the life I have been living in London. When arriving in London, everyone spoke English. So, I found it very easy to get used to the new environment. I have recently traveled to Berlin, Germany and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. When arriving in both of these cities I noticed very quickly that it is extremely hard to communicate with others. Most people had been speaking German and Dutch, so it was a bit of a challenge to even order a coffee.

A Trip Up the Western Coast of Italy

This weekend was like nothing I have ever experienced, it was amazing, exciting, and relaxing all at the same time. My roommate Sandy and I decided to head up to Northern Italy to do some exploring. Continue reading

And Just Like That We are Halfway Through

Time has gone by so quickly. Everyone warned me of this that in a blink of an eye this will all be a memory. Excuse me while I already tear up at that thought! We are halfway through the semester and midterms are in absolute full swing. I have spent the past week drowning in work and studying. But everyone needs a break right!?

Fall Break or the Summer of Study Abroad

Since coming to London, I have made tons of friends with whom I spend all of my time. Whether it is going to dinner, going out for drinks, or just watching movies, we are all always spending time together. They have all become some of my best friends while I have been here. Soon, though, fall break will be starting. We will all be parting ways, and going on different journeys. When I thought about fall break before coming here, I couldn’t wait! I thought it was going to be the best thing to get away from school and experience something new. Which, don’t get me wrong, I am still extremely excited for. But, it is definitely going to be weird leaving my friends’ sides. Continue reading

Creating Less Trash

2 weeks ago, I wrote a blog post talking about how shocked I was to see the excessive use of plastic use here in Italy. I discussed how I had been trying to cut back on my plastic consumption before coming to Italy. Coming to Italy has caused a slight set back to my zero-waste journey, but I am slowly reducing my waste more and more each week.
Here I will share with you the small changes I have made that have helped me drastically cut back on my plastic intake here in Italy.

A Vegan Living in Rome

Why would you do that? Isn’t it so hard? Do you hate yourself? Where do you get your protein?

Those are the questions I get when someone finds out I am a vegan. Its usually followed with statements about how God put animals on the earth for us to eat, or that I am going to get sick and die if I don’t eat meat. The conversations then end with jokes being pushed back and forth and then a few eye rolls. But this was before I moved to Rome. Now, being in Rome, people are absolutely outraged by my choice to not eat any dairy, eggs, fish or meat. Continue reading

A Little Taste of Comfort and Home

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and new colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”

I stumbled upon this quote this week during my daily visit to Pinterest. I am not going to even begin to sugar coat this, it hit very close to home. I teared up a little bit writing this. Continue reading

Dealing with Strikes

When it comes to traveling abroad, I have noticed quite a few challenges that I have come to face. Some of these challenges being strikes on air lines, and even strikes on the tube. These types of strikes make it, not only difficult to travel, but sometimes impossible.

When I was looking to book flights for my upcoming fall break trip, I noticed prices were sky rocketing. The were rising by the second, and soon did I find out why. Continue reading

It’s Time to Talk Trash

For the last few weeks have been going on and on about how much I love living here in Rome, and that’s all true, but there is this one thing. This one thing that I just absolutely cannot stand.

All the trash. Continue reading
