Three weeks ago, I recall anxiously waiting for my flight to depart Newark International Airport so that my semester in Madrid could officially begin. Before leaving the States, I had the mindset of experiencing nirvana and adventure in nearly early every moment in Spain. I was beyond thrilled to learn about the Spanish culture and language, and visit some of Europe’s most remarkable sites. More importantly however, I wanted to grow personally by becoming more independent and self-assured by living on my own in a new country. Continue reading
I genuinely can’t come to the realization that I’ve lived in Spain for only two weeks. Attending classes at Marymount and being with my family over the holidays seems like a lifetime away. I suppose this can be attributed to the amount of personal growth I’ve had based on my experiences thus far. I nosedived into Spanish culture upon my arrival, and resurfaced with so much knowledge and admiration of the Spanish culture and language in less than a month.
After nearly two days of traveling, I arrived safely to my new home for the next six months: Madrid, Spain. “MUsings of the Traveling Saints” is Marymount University’s new blog for our study abroad students. Each semester, students will be able to apply to be one of our Global Ambassadors and to write about their experiences abroad. These blog posts will be insights into the way travel and studying abroad can change students’ outlook on life, on their identity, on their own country, but they will also be ways for our local community to know what kind of experiences these particular students are having. We at the Center for Global Education want to give our Global Ambassadors a platform to share their voice with the public and to showcase the wonderful opportunities that studying abroad with Marymount University provides.
Since study abroad programs may begin a little later than Marymount University’s semester, our first blog posts will be posted when our Global Ambassadors begin their courses. At the moment, only Stephanie has begun her study abroad experience so expect her first blog post at the beginning of next week! Katherine and Caitlin begin in February so by then, we should start having more posts for you to read.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Happy readings, safe travels, and have a wonderful week.
